Madelscy | SELF - IDENTIFICATION
Fort Institute of Photography invites you to the exhibition of photographs from the collection of Joanna and Krzysztof Madelski entitled Self-identification. In the description of the curator, Adam Mazur, we read that the core of Joanna and Krzysztof Madelski's collection is Polish photography of the second half of the 20th century. The nature of the collection is determined by the inclusion of video works in the catalog, the special role of young generation artists and a constant relationship with artists who are the pillars of the collection, spread over the years. The exhibition at the Fort Institute of Photography reflects this specificity, starting from the classic works of Ewa Partum from the Self-identification series, presenting video works (including Katarzyna Kozyra, Agnieszka Polska, Alicja Żebrowska) and an overview of the latest acquisitions (including Mia Dudek, Anna Grzelewska). Politics and the body, identity and sexuality remain the common denominator of photography and video. For several years the collection has been shown in public institutions (including the National Museum in Gdańsk, the Museum of the City of Łódź) and private institutions (Artstations Foundation in Poznań). The Warsaw exhibition - the fifth one in a row - is a voice for artists to express themselves in the discussion on the rights of women and sexual minorities. The fundamental discussion, which, although it seemed closed and historical, is still topical like a performance by Ewa Partum. The vernissage will take place on 1st September 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fort Institute of Photography Gallery at 99 Racławicka Street, while the exhibition itself will be open until 24th September 2017 (Wednesday-Friday: 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday-Sunday: 12:00 a.m.-6: 00 p.m.).
