Anatol Kotte | ICONICATION - exhibition
On 7th December , at the Fort Institute of Photography, we have the honor to present a unique exhibition. The exhibition Iconication by the German portraitist Anatol Kotte is a cross-sectional presentation of the creative output spanning for almost four decades. From 1981, at the age of 18 he was applying for the position of an assistant photographer in a local studio. Through years of cooperation with socio-cultural magazines, such as Tempo or Wiener, Kotte has developed a portfolio of images of representatives of the world of culture, politics and show business. They are heroes of the mass imagination, whose insightful studies have become his trademark. The exhibition Iconication is named after the album published in 2015, which is a sum of his work to date. Kotte complicates the reception of seemingly simple, mainstream images. He consciously refers to the ambiguous concept of an icon, which is the key to understand the method and effects of his work. Lots of reflection, few frames - this is how he briefly describes the analytical and empathetic process preceding the act of pressing the shutter of the camera. The exhibition at the Fort Institute of Photography is the first presentation of Anatol Kotte's oeuvre in Poland. It consists of nearly 80 portraits of key representatives of contemporary German culture.
